2017 LASG Academic Committee Meeting Held

On the afternoon of December 4th, 2017, annual academic committee meeting of the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Beijing. The main goal of the meeting was to hear and deliberate LASG research, management and LASG research open programs progress. Development strategies under new situation as well as next year work priorities were also discussed.

The meeting was hosted by Academician Prof. MU Mu, director of LASG academic committee. On behalf of LASG’s leading group, Director Prof. XIAO Ziniu gave a report summarizing LASG work in 2017 regarding research advance, team building, project application, international office, openness and cooperation. Afterwards, deputy director Prof. DUAN Wansuo informed committee members of the open research programs implementation in 2017 and application for 2018.

The academic committee all agreed that LASG has made impressive progress throughout the year. They proposed a couple of constructive advice on LASG Development, which included research keeping up with overall national development, focusing national sustainable development and governance, in addition to traditional research fields, trying to foster new branches that satisfy national science needs etc. It was suggested that LASG should admit new talents, especially international talents, reforming the way talents work and transforming from free exploration to organized research aiming at tackling science difficulties.

Attendees included academic committee and advisory committee members, they are HUANG Ronghui, LI Chongyin, MU Mu, ZHANG Rehe, SUN Zhaobo, HE Jinhai, LI Weijing, DONG Wenjie, WANG Bin, LU Riyu, XIAO Ziniu, WU Renguang and ZHOU Tianjun. Deputy director XIE Zhenghui, DUAN Wansuo and GUO Zhenghai attended the meeting as well.
