The XIV LASG Climate System Model Symposium Held

The XIV LASG Climate System Model Symposium was held from 11-12 September in Beijing. The symposium attracted more than 180 scientists in earth climate system model research from over 20 universities and institutes. For fostering young modeling talents, this meeting also generously provided dozens of students with travel grant.

Prof. Zhenghui Xie, LASG Deputy Director presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Ziniu Xiao LASG Director highlighted the importance of numerical modeling in earth system research. CAS Academician and Prof. Guoxiiong Wu reviewed LASG modeling development, introduced the current modeling research trends. Dr. Chaolin Zhang from National Nature Science (NSFC) called for more collaboration among modeling teams both domestic and abroad to reach a new high.

Invited experts led by Prof. Jiang Zhu IAP Director General delivered 44 excellent oral talks which centered around four themes (1) Climate, earth system modeling and simulation; (2) Land surface process and simulation; (3) Atmospheric modeling parameterization and simulation; (4) Ocean modeling and coupling simulation. LASG modeling team members chaired the scientific sessions and lively discussions that followed. In addition, around 20 posters from young scholars were presented.

Launched in 2001, model symposium is a primary event held annually by the lab. Since then it has developed into an excellent forum for modeling teams around the country to exchange latest research findings and discuss future cooperation opportunities.
