Dr. ZHANG Wenxia Serves as Working Group Member of the WCRP Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change Lighthouse Activity

At the invitation of Prof. Rowan Sutton and Dr. Kirsten Findell, the co-chairs of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change (EPESC) Lighthouse Activity, Dr. ZHANG Wenxia from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences joined the WCRP EPESC Lighthouse Activity as a member of the “Assessment of Current and Future Hazards” Working Group (WG3) in June 2022.

WCRP was established in 1980 and has made enormous contributions to advancing climate science over the past 40 years. The overarching objective of the WCRP EPESC Lighthouse Activity is to “Design, and take major steps toward delivery of, an integrated capability for quantitative observation, explanation, early warning, and prediction of Earth System change on global and regional scales, with a focus on multi-annual to decadal timescales” (https://www.wcrp-climate.org/epesc). The WCRP EPESC consists of a Scientific Steering Group and three Working Groups. Each Working Group is formed by approximately 10 members. These Working Groups are developing strategic links and activities with WCRP Core Projects and other Lighthouse Activities.

Dr. ZHANG Wenxia is with the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG) at IAP. Her research interests include climate change and variability, with a focus on global monsoons, water cycle and climate extremes.
