2016 Academic Committee Meeting of LASG was Held in Beijing

On the afternoon of December 20th, 2016, annual academic committee meeting of the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (LASG), Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Beijing.

The main goal of the meeting was to hear and deliberate LASG research and management and LASG research open programs progress. How to maintain LASG priority in modeling development, optimize research teams and refine next year work plan were also discussed.

The meeting was hosted by academician Mu Mu, director of LASG academic committee. On behalf of LASG’s leading group, Director Prof. Ziniu Xiao first gave a report on work summary of LASG in 2016 and introduced key tasks in in 2017. Afterwards, deputy director Prof. Wansuo Duan informed committee members of the open research programs implementation in 2016 and the application in 2017.

The academic committee all agreed that LASG has made impressive progress in the scientific research, laboratory management and open programs throughout the year. They proposed constructive advice on maintaining LASG priority in modeling development, such as being oriented to the international earth system modeling developing forefront, being driven by national demands and integrating modeling developing, theory research and observation. Bringing in talents and cooperating with other top laboratories should be emphasized. Moreover, the experts suggested LASG as an open state key laboratory making efforts to expand model users and increase impact, strengthening cooperation through observation projects and platforms so as to promote interaction among theoretical study, modeling development and operational business.

Attendees included academic committee and advisory committee members, they are Ronghui Huang, Chongyin Li, Mu Mu, Rehe Zhang, Zhaobo Sun, Jinhai He, Weijing Li, Wenjie Dong, Bin Wang, Riyu Lu, Ziniu Xiao,Renguang Wu and Tianjun Zhou. Deputy director Zhenghui Xie, Wansuo Duan and Zhenghai Guo attended the meeting as well.
