The XVII LASG Climate System Model Symposium Held

The XVII LASG Climate System Model Symposium was held from July 17 to 19 2019 in Changchun. More than 120 model researchers attended the symposium. To foster young modeling talents, the meeting sponsored travel grants for 9 students.

Prof. XIAO Ziniu LASG Director welcomed the attendees at the opening ceremony and called for more collaboration among modeling teams both at home and abroad.

The meeting consisted of 41 oral reports and 28 poster presentations. LASG modeling team first introduced advances in each field. Prof. YU Yongqiang introduced the new versions of LASG climate model and their results participating in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6); Prof. BAO Qing focused on development of the Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model Finite Volume Version 2, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS FGOALS-f2) and its application in climate and weather forecast; Dr. DONG Li briefed the CMIP6 experiments and results conducted by the Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System Model, Grid-point Version 3: Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-FGOALS-g3); Dr. LIN Pengfei showed the impact of LASG/IAP Climate System Ocean Model 3 (LICOM 3) physical process improvement on climate simulation. Prof. XIE Zhenghui introduced the latest development of high resolution Land Surface Model for Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-LSM). In the following sessions, dozens of invited experts shared their research findings in Earth system modeling, ocean and sea ice modeling, data assimilation, physical parameterization, climate simulation, land-air interaction and land-surface modeling with participants.

Launched in 2001, LASG model symposium has provided an excellent forum for modeling researchers to exchange in depth and discuss future cooperation opportunities.
