The XVI LASG Climate System Model Symposium Held
The XVI LASG Climate System Model Symposium was held from 18-20 July 2018 in Kunming. More than 130 scientists in earth climate system model research attended the symposium. To foster young modeling talents, the meeting sponsored travel grants for 10 students.
Prof. XIAO Ziniu LASG Director welcomed the attendees at the opening ceremony and called for more collaboration among modeling teams both domestic and abroad to reach a new high. Symposium exchange began with LASG modeling team’s reports in each field. Prof. YU Yongqiang introduced the advance in Earth System Science Numerical Simulator Facility. Prof. LIU Hailong reported the highlights of LASG/IAP Climate System Ocean Model (LICOM) in mesoscale and tidal mixed parameterization. Prof. LI Lijuan discussed with the participants about the Grid-point Atmospheric Model of IAP LASG version 3 (GAMIL3). Prof. BAO Qing focused on subseasonal forecast system. Prof. XIE Zhenghui demonstrated the latest development of high resolution Land Surface Model for Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-LSM). In the following sessions, invited experts gave lectures on earth system model, land surface process and land-air simulation, model simulation and application, parameterization scheme, climate simulation and model assessment etc. Dozens of posters were also presented.
Launched in 2001, model symposium is an excellent forum for modeling teams around the country to exchange latest research findings and discuss future cooperation opportunities.
